Lifetime Valentines

“Life leads the thoughtful person on a path of many windings. At times the course is checked. Then it runs straight again. Here winged thoughts may pour forth freely in words. There the heavy burden of knowledge must be shut away in silence. But when two people are at one in their inmost hearts, they shatter even the strength of iron or of bronze. And when two people understand each other in their inmost hearts, their words are sweet and strong, like the fragrance of orchids.” (Confucius' commentary to “I Ching” hexagram 13, “Fellowship”)

How can two people remain inwardly connected if they are outwardly separated by their positions in life? By remaining true to themselves and each other, they will allow nothing to violate the sanctity of their love. No matter how great a struggle is needed, they will succeed in overcoming the obstacles.

Astrologically, Venus in the birth chart indicates love and Mars shows desire. Many failed relationships are built on only one or both of these two building blocks. But it takes the depth of many more combined influences to both create and maintain a meaningful relationship.

Saturn, for example, indicates self-discipline, respect, wisdom, maturity and responsibility. It is the “commitment” planet, whose lessons precipitate the development of character. After the fantasy “infatuation” phase of a relationship plays itself out, Saturn is the “reality check.”

Jupiter indicates spiritual integrity, generosity and humor, a saving grace. It is the foundation upon which a couple's daily connectedness expresses its true dynamic.

Mercury shows deliberate and conscious use of one's intelligence, communication with “sweet and strong” words and objectivity.

Uranus shows unselfishness and social conscience.

Neptune shows either the highest idealism by which one lives or the lowest deception by which one falls.

And the Sun indicates willingness. Love is willingness.

When two birth charts are placed around each other, the resulting combined chart is called a “synastry”. It shows how a couple can cultivate their higher potentials as individuals, and thus harmonize with each other, maintaining a co-creative union.

It also shows what lower attributes to resolve within oneself before one projects their corrupting influence into the union. It is these inner obstacles that enlightened couples consciously overcome in order to remain happy lifetime Valentines.
